Silence a Squeaky Door Forever

WD-40 Is a Temporary Fix

WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. It'll quiet the squeak for a day, then evaporate.

The Right Way

  1. Identify the squeaky hinge
  2. Tap out the hinge pin with a nail and hammer
  3. Clean the pin with steel wool
  4. Apply white lithium grease to pin and barrel
  5. Reinsert and work the door

If you can't remove the pin, spray silicone lubricant into the hinge gap.
